CHARACTERS:

ASHURA Sole survivor of the Ashura clan and heir to the former
God-King Ashura. Her father, the then Ashura-Oh, as the
Protector Warrior God of Heaven and Emperor, had fought the
rebel, Taishaku-Ten, in what later would be known as the
Sei-Sen (Holy War). With the betrayal of his wife, Shashi,
Ashura-Oh's forces were annihilated and the God-Emperor
slain. After the birth of both Ashura and Taishaku's son,
Ten-Oh (they were twins, though with a different
father!!!!!), Shashi, who had become the wife of
Taishaku-Ten, attempted to kill the now in-the-way Ashura.
                As a result (since I don't have the manga volume #1, I don't
really know exactly what happened,) Ashura was sealed in a
power barrier. Though 300 years old, (which should have
given her/him an appearance of at least a 17 years old or
round about) she/he was only recently unsealed from power
barrier and looks and acts like a 6-7 years old. In
Buddhist mythology, Ashura-Oh has been depicted as either a
demon-god or a youth with indeterminate sex. Though there
is a strong indication that this Ashura (the one in the
anime) is a female, considering the character to be
androgynous may be more accurate. Nonetheless, in this
script Ashura will be referred to as "she" since, in
English, one cannot refer to someone without giving
indications of his/her sex. One of the Six Stars that were
prophesied to bring the downfall of the reign of
Taishaku-Ten. Heir to the sorcerous sword, Shura-toh. The
Ashuras are known to use fire as their element.

YASHA (=Yasha-Oh) God-King of the Yasha clan and Bushohshin
(Warrior-Chief God) of the North. His clan was annihilated
by Taishaku-Ten after, lead by a prophecy, he breached the
power barrier that had been sealing Ashura. With this
breach, the prophecy of the fall of Taishaku-Ten's reign set
into motion. One of the Six Stars. Currently, though only
circa 500 years young, he's an adopted father to Ashura and
is rumored to have become "aged" for his years. Holder of
                the sorcerous sword, Yama-toh.

RYU-OH God-King of the Ryu (=Dragon) clan and Bushohshin of the
West. After acceding the position due to his grandfather's
illness, he joined Yasha and Ashura in their journey purely
because he wanted to have a fighting match with Yasha, who
is reputed to be the strongest of the Bushohshins. One of
the Six Stars. Holder of the sorcerous sword, Ryuga-toh
                (Dragon-Teeth Sword).

KARURA-OH God-King(Queen) of the Karura clan and Bushohshin of the
South. (Though in the manga, she had not yet joined them at
this particular episode of the anime,) She joins forces with
Yasha in their quest to destroy Taishaku-Ten after her
sister, Karyoh-Binga, was cruelly driven to death by him.
She has with her Garuda, a golden sorcerous predatory bird.

SOHMA Last surviving member of the Sohma clan. Her clan was
destroyed by Taishaku-Ten for the fear of the Sohma legend.
The legend claims that a Sohma can grant one person eternal
life. She was saved by Kendappa-Oh and is sent to help
Yasha-Oh by Kissho-Ten, wife of Bishamon-Ten, when the
goddess could no longer bear the cruelty of Taishaku-Ten's
reign. One of the Six Stars.

KENDAPPA-OH Called the Gakushi no Kimi, or Lord(Lady) of Instruments,
she is an adept of the harp and is a court player at
Taishaku-Ten's palace. She doesn't know it yet, but she is
also one of the Six Stars.

KUJAKU A mysterious visitor to Yasha's group, he tells them that he
is neither one of Taishaku-Ten's men nor one of the Six
Stars. Though he claims himself to be just a wanderer
pursuing entertainment, he knows many things that no one
                else knows about...

TAISHAKU-TEN The rebel who claimed the Ten-Tei(God-Emperor)'s seat when
his forces overwhelmed and defeated the former Ten-Tei's and
                Ashura-Oh's forces.

BISHAMON-TEN Leader and member of the Four Heavenly God-Kings. A loyal
servant of Taishaku-Ten. Protector God of the North.

AIZEN Aizen-Myoh-Oh. [ASIDE: (In Buddhist mythology) One of the
Savior Gods of the masses.] She used to be one of the
playmates of Yasha (which included the now Karura-Oh and the
now Kendappa-Oh) three hundred years ago when they were in
their "childhood". In this anime, the demon that captures
Yasha is Aizen who had hosted a demon in her body from
loneliness (and so retains her "child" appearance), but in
the manga (the original story-line), she had been killed and
eaten by the demon of the North, who had acquired her
beautiful face through the consumption and wanted Yasha for
the semi-eternal life span of the gods.

KUYOH Has the title "Star Gazer" [ALT: Star Seer]. Was labelled a
criminal when she prophesied the end of Taishaku-Ten's
                reign.

HANNYARA Taishaku-Ten's seeress.

SPECIAL NOTE: TERMS, CONCEPTS and OTHER NOTES

1) The names Ashura and Yasha, though used in this anime and in the original
manga as if they are clan names, are really names of the Disruptive Gods who
were converted to Buddhism and became one of the Protectors. Though
Buddhism does not have a "god" (everyone can reach nirvana and hence become
a "buddha"), there are close to 80,000 protector gods of Buddhism (from one
source). Buddhism, which originated in India, had reached Japan in a very
roundabout way, and had, as a result, acquired many regional gods to the
repertoire of "protectors of Buddhism" and "representative gods". Due to
the astonishing number, the "gods" were glorified in paintings, carvings,
and statues by the avid Buddhists, but were never truly "believed" nor
"worshipped".

2) In RG VEDA (pronounced Rig Veida), the "God race" have a longer life span
than humans, but are not invincible nor deathless. They do, however, have
powers humans do not have. But since the heir of a clan king always takes
up the name of the clan when he/she accedes the position, one can say that
so-and-so god is permanent and deathless. [ASIDE: Rig Vedas is a name for
Hindu holy book. Because Buddhism was born from a society that followed
Hinduism, some concepts and gods can be traced back to Rig Vedas. One such
clear example is Ashura, Asura in Hinduism.]

3) Before Taishaku-Ten rebelled against the former Ten-Tei, or Heavenly
Emperor, and took over the Heavenly Kingdom, the Ashura clan was the Hi-Ten,
or the Un-Emperor, of the Kingdom. [Note: Hi-Ten should be pronounced
"he-ten" as in "she and he".] Ashura-Ohs were considered to be
Shugo-toh-Shins, or the Protector Warrior Gods who protected the Kingdom
from invasion by demons and acted as a balance of power to the Heavenly
Emperor. Their castle is located under the Zenmi-jyo of the Ten-Tei and
hence is under water, upside down. Only the blood-relatives of the Ashura
clan was able to enter the water.

4) The Ten-Kai, or the Heavenly Kingdom, has a boundary. Outside this
boundary is the I-Kai, or the Other Kingdom, where the demons reign. These
demons are ever trying to invade the Heavenly Kingdom and the Protector Gods
fight to keep them out and hence protect Buddhism. There are 4 Heavenly
God-Kings (Shi-Tennoh) under the rule of the Emperor-God Taishaku:
Bishamon-Ten, Zohchoh-Ten, Jikoku-Ten, and Kohmoku-Ten. They each protect
one of the four directions of the Heaven, North, South, East, and West,
respectively. Under these major Gods are the Bushohshins, or the
Warrior-Chief Gods.

5) Ten = Heaven; God; used in the mythology to indicate higher ruling god's
   rank.

Oh = King; used in the mythology to indicate lower ruling god's rank.
Usually the leader of a god-clan, such as Ashura-Oh, Yasha-Oh, and
   Ryu-Oh.

6) This OAV was very loosely based around the RG VEDA manga volume #4. The
story-line, however, has been changed drastically in some places to fit the
OAV comfortably. (E.g., (in the manga,) Aizen-Myoh-oh had been killed 300
years ago by the Demon of the North who acquired her face; Karura-Oh had not
yet joined forces with Yasha at this particular episode; Yasha was never
mind-controlled as he was in this anime, hence did not attack Ashura; Kujaku
killed the demon who looked like Aizen-Myoh-Oh, not Ashura, by revealing
something of what he really was; There was a "ceremony" that had finally
sheathed the Shura-toh in Ashura's body so that she was able to use the
sword for the first time)

-----------------------------

NARRATOR In the age when time held no meaning, the gods ruled all
that was between heaven and earth. The still powerless
human race was living <relatively> peacefully under the
Ten-Tei [ET: Heavenly Emperor; ALT: God-Emperor] who stood
above all other gods. In that <peaceful> world, darkness
                befell, and Taishaku-Ten, a mere general [ET: war lord;
military commander] rebelled and raised his forces. Within
the Imperial palace, he finally succeeded in capturing the
Ten-Tei's head. [ALT: succeeded in beheading the God
                Emperor]

-----------------------------
(In the night, four figures are running away from troops. Finding that
there is no escape, the figures unsheathe their weapons. The arrows fly...
 and)

(With the strike of her staff, Kuyoh, who stands amid her Sei-Shuku (a
zodiac-like set) relates her prophecy regarding Yasha-Oh)

KUYOH Six stars fall
Thou art a Dark Star that rises against the Heaven
At the tip of the destiny being woven
                Thou shalt thyself foster
As the extinct blood clan dictates
Thou shalt depart with a child
Though neither good nor ill <can> be determined
That child shall move the wheel of the destiny of the
                  Heavenly Kingdom
The gathering of the Six Stars indicates the end of
                  Heaven
But to the side of the Darkness one will come
Who governs the orbit of the stars and rules both the Dark
                  Star and the Heaven Star
That one, not even my zodiac can ascertain
The red flame that you nurture
                Will burn away all evil
Together, the Six Stars shall overwhelm any and all others
                  and be unconquerable

                And,

You[=the Six Stars] shall become the "Break" that will
                  destroy the Heaven

* In the prophecy above, "Heaven (Ten)" is an analogy of "Taishaku-Ten",
the God-Emperor, and his reign.

Title : SEI-DEN (read as "RiG VEDA") - Holy Legend -
         Episode: Ice Castle Fire Hell

-----------------------------
(The Imperial troops and Yasha's group fight)

RYU-OH Haja [LT: Break-Evil]! Kai-Ryu-Ha [LT: Sea Dragon Wave]!!

[NOTE: Some of these command words sound very retarded when translated into
English. kanji, the chinese characters, usually have two ways to pronounce
them in Japanese. Command words usually use the "on"-sound of a word
instead of the "kun", which would be more literal and descriptive. Also,
Ryu-Oh is not calling up a magical power by magical chant, but rather by
using certain command words, gathering in his Ki (internal power of the
mind) for specific results. For more detailed explanation of Ki, please
read the "SPECIAL NOTE: TERMS, CONCEPTS, AND OTHER NOTES" section of the
Griffin Script "Karura Mau - Movie".]

(Karura-Oh calls up her Garuda, a bird that shares her life, to dispatch the
enemy. The image of the aftermath is seen in the water-mirror by
 Taishaku-Ten's seeress)

HANNYARA The Six Stars... The Dark Stars that are said to lead the
reign of the God-Emperor, Lord Taishaku-Ten, to
                destruction...
TAISHAKU-TEN It seems that you still have difficulty in ridding them.
BISHAMON-TEN Lord Taishaku-Ten, a plan has already been set into motion.
TAISHAKU-TEN The seal of Ashura-Oh, the key figure of the Six Stars and my
arch-enemy, has been broken by Yasha-Oh and the wheel of
destiny of the Heavenly Kingdom has begun to turn. Yasha-Oh
of the North, Ryu-Oh of the West, and Karura-Oh of the
South... To think that three of the Bushohshins under the
Shi-tennoh(=Four Heavenly Gods) were one of the Six Stars...
BISHAMON-TEN Only two more... I have some hint <as to their identity>.
There is one that helps Yasha-Oh and Ashura-Oh from the
                side.
TAISHAKU-TEN So five stars are already within my grasp...
BISHAMON-TEN Indeed. They are currently at the Far North where once the
village of Yasha clan was located. I have heard that there
is a demon that even the Yasha clan renowned for their
stalwartness could not succeed in subjugating [ALT:
eliminating]. Yasha-Oh who was called the Demon-God of the
North... It would be amusing if he were to lose his life
                in a demon-race suppression...

[Note: "Ki-jin"=Demon-God and "Ma-zoku"=demon-race have slightly different
meaning in terms of the use "demon". "Ki", (which is an "on" reading of
the kun word "Oni") means demon or ferocious ogre-like being, while "ma"
(used in words like "mamono"=creature of magic) has the connotation of
 sorcerous and evil.]

TAISHAKU-TEN The North has been a place that Yasha-Oh, under the command
of Bishamon-Ten [ALT: under your command], had been
protecting... How fortunate that he can die in such a
                place.
BISHAMON-TEN Indeed.
-----------------------------
(Yasha sheathes his sword)

KARURA-OH Let's go. (Ryu-Oh notices a pair of butterflies) Hurry.
RYU-OH Ah? Right. [ALT: Okay; Yes; Yeah]
-----------------------------
(A water sphere breaks within the water-mirror)

TAISHAKU-TEN It's said that when the Six Stars that will destroy the
Heaven gather, my reign will end as well. I won't permit
it, as I am the God-Emperor, I am the peace and destiny of
                the Heavenly Kingdom.
BISHAMON-TEN A sacrifice is essential for the peace of the land. As the
present world is the result of the bloods spilled by the
previous emperor, Ashura clan, and other humans, there is no
difference now in adding another drop of whoever's blood.
[ALT: what difference is there <now> in adding another's
                drop of blood?]
-----------------------------
(The North, Yasha Village. Where once filled with life, now there is
only burned-down structures. The result of Yasha's defiance to
Taishaku-Ten...)

ASHURA Yasha...
(Together, Yasha and Ashura descend to the village)
RYU-OH H-Hey! Yasha
KARURA-OH Wait, Ryu-Oh.
RYU-OH What?
KARURA-OH Let him be.
RYU-OH Why?
KARURA-OH This is Yasha's former homeland that he wanted to protect
but could not. You're a king yourself, you surely
                understand <how he feels>.
RYU-OH Yes... I guess I kind of understand...

(Yasha and Ashura walk through the ruin. Near a large tree, they hear a
 voice from above)

KUJAKU A close father and child as ever, <I see>. The strongest
Bushohshin in the Heavenly Kingdom is now a fine nanny,
[ALT: governess(?), nursery man] <it seems>. Hahahaha...!
(Yasha draws his sword and cuts down the tree. When the dust settles,
Kujaku is sitting on it already)
KUJAKU Mister, ["Oji-san"=older man; uncle] haven't I asked you to
stop that habit of yours of resorting to blades
immediately? [ALT: Haven't I asked you to correct that
tendency of yours to resort to blades immediately?]
ASHURA Kujaku...? Kujaku!
KUJAKU Ah, Ashura, how have you been? A healthy complexion as
ever. Yasha-Oh must really be feeding you good things.
What's the matter? It's not like the usual piglet.
ASHURA Ashura isn't a piglet! [ALT: I'm not a piglet!]

[Note: Children usually refer to themselves by their names in Japan.
Mature children and persons would not do so. This way of addressing
herself indicates the mental age of Ashura who is supposed to be 300 years
 old]

KARURA-OH What's the matter, Yasha-Oh? What happened?
KUJAKU Karura-Oh and Ryu-Oh, it's been a while. Have you been
                well?
RYU-OH Did Yasha-Oh do it again? Really, you're so
                short-tempered!
YASHA Why are you here?
KUJAKU No reason. I had time, [ALT: I was bored] so I just
stopped by to see cute Ashura's face.
RYU-OH You really attract the weirdest sort. Like Yasha-Oh and
Kujaku and... (feeling the stare of Yasha,) Hahahaha...!
KARURA-OH Did you notice? It seems as though the enemy went their
way to lead us to this Northern land.
YASHA Yes...
RYU-OH What? You're saying that they lured us here?
KARURA-OH I'm saying it's possible.
RYU-OH Why? What do they plan to do by bringing us to such a
place as this? [ALT: getting us here?]
KARURA-OH If we knew that, there wouldn't be any problem.
RYU-OH Hrmph! Fools! Come if you dare, Imperial troops!!
KUJAKU (Clapping,) It's good that the young chief [ALT: leader] of
the dragon clan is always full of energy. In contrast, the
young lord of Yasha have "aged" completely. (Yasha comes
for Ashura and Kujaku hands her over)
YASHA Whatever may be the case, the sun will set soon. It's
                impossible to move from here.
KARURA-OH Do you know of a place we can stay?
YASHA Yes.
-----------------------------
(In front of a temple-like structure)

KARURA-OH A cavern that the Yasha clan had once used, huh?
RYU-OH I guess today's place of sleep [ALT: roost] is almost
normal. Ashura, since it's not the top of a tree today,
sleep a little away from me.
ASHURA Why?
RYU-OH Besides having an atrocious bed-manner, you talk in
your sleep, like "I'm hungry" and "I'll eat more"!
                [ALT: "I want more"]
ASHURA Ashura hasn't said something like that! [ALT: I
                haven't said something like that]
RYU-OH You did.
ASHURA No I didn't!
RYU-OH You did too!
ASHURA I said I didn't!
RYU-OH If I said you did, you did!!
KUJAKU Come, come. Both of you calm down. There's a good way
                <to solve this>.
RYU-OH A good..
ASHURA ..way?
KUJAKU Ryu-Oh goes hunting for today's dinner and Ashura becomes
the bait for it. Then, no winner no loser!
RYU-OH Why do I have to go hunt for dinner?
ASHURA Why am I a bait?
KUJAKU Because, within the group, Ryu-Oh is the strongest and
                Ashura is the cutest.
BOTH Hm? (Getting their spirits up,) We'll be going!!
KUJAKU Be careful!
KARURA-OH Ho! So that's how you use children. That was educational.
But would it be safe to let those two go <alone>, Yasha-Oh?
[LT: But is it all right to let them go?]
(Yasha does not answer as he enters the building)
-----------------------------

(Night. Within the structure, they sleep. Ashura dreams. She hears
crying)

ASHURA What's the matter? Why are you crying?
GIRL I'm lonely...!

(With a burst of butterflies, Ashura wakes up. She goes outside)
ASHURA She said she was lonely... I wonder who she is?
YASHA Ashura...
ASHURA Yasha!
YASHA You'll catch a cold.
ASHURA Everyone died here. I wonder if it's my fault...
I wonder because I came, everyone died... I wonder if
I'm at fault... Because of my fault...
YASHA No! It's not your fault!
ASHURA But...!
YASHA I'm at fault. My crime for not being able to save even
                one <member> of my clan.
ASHURA No! You're not at fault! You're not!
(pauses,) I wonder if you'll die, too...
YASHA We've promised, remember? That you'll go with me, that
we'll be together forever. Are you going to break that
promise? I promised to you as well, that I'll protect you
forever. Promises between just you and me. [ALT: Promises
between just the two of us]
ASHURA Yasha! That's so <isn't it>. You'll definitely keep
                your promises <won't you>. You're strong <aren't you>...

(On top of a cliff nearby,)
KUJAKU My, makes me cry. To care that much for a child who is
supposed to kill him, Yasha-Oh must be pretty weird. But
the wheel of destiny is turning as prophesied. Yasha-Oh
and Ashura-Oh... I wonder if those two have enough powers to
cut away from it (ref: destiny). And besides, it seems
like there's going to be another interruption.

(A pair of butterflies fly toward Yasha and Ashura as they head back to
camp)
ASHURA That... was in my dream... [LT: That came out in the
                dream]
(Staring at the butterflies, Yasha regards the oddness of their presence,
considering that the North was soon to be sealed in ice and snow. "A demon
 creature," he realizes.)
YASHA ...!!
ASHURA What's the matter?
YASHA Ashura, get back!
(Yasha draws his sword and attacks. The butterflies, when sliced,
multiply and soon Yasha has to deal with handfuls of them)
ASHURA Yasha!!
YASHA Ashura! (He tries to go to Ashura) Ashura!
(But a butterfly intercepts him. He is put into a semi-trance state)
YASHA Ashura...!
RYU-OH What happened, Yasha!?
(Ryu-Oh and Karura-Oh arrive, but find Yasha covered with butterflies)
ASHURA Yasha! Yasha... (Fire energy coalesce in her hands)
Yasha!! (She throws the energy at Yasha, but the wall
                of butterflies is invincible) Yasha...!
YASHA Ashura...
ASHURA Yasha! (With a burst of light, Yasha disappears)
RYU-OH Disappeared?
KARURA-OH Ashura...
ASHURA Yasha... YASHA!!!
-----------------------------
(Within the Ice Castle,)

AIZEN Finally within my hands... My light that I've been
searching for so long. The light that's stronger than
anyone, that will help me, that is all mine. I don't want
to be alone any longer. I don't want to be lonely <any
                longer>.
-----------------------------
(At the Imperial Palace, Kendappa-Oh is playing her harp, but one of the
strings breaks)

KENDAPPA-OH The harp's string has broken. As I shall go replace it
in the antechamber, I ask that you wait a moment.
(Kendappa-Oh retreats)
BISHAMON-TEN I will report again. I have been told that Yasha-Oh has
been captured by the demon of the North.
TAISHAKU-TEN So this demon will take care of the Six Stars without our
                intervention? [LT: without our effort]
BISHAMON-TEN Yes. I remember that it was Yasha-Oh who reported that
there was a demon making it's nest in the far land in an
ice castle that no man entered.
TAISHAKU-TEN Yasha-Oh was once reputed to be the most skilled sword-user
of the Bushohshins. He will surely give us a good
                entertainment.

(Kendappa-Oh, who overhears the conversation, backs away and heads for
 the courtyard)
KENDAPPA-OH Sohma.
SOHMA I am here. My lord(lady), Kendappa-Oh.
KENDAPPA-OH Please convey to the Ashura-Oh's heir. The capture of
Yasha-Oh was a trap set by Taishaku-Ten. To quickly get
                away from there.
SOHMA Yasha-Oh was captured?
KENDAPPA-OH Tell her that if it's impossible to rescue Yasha-Oh, then
even just the three of them should get away.
SOHMA I shall surely convey it.
KENDAPPA-OH I'm counting on you, Sohma.
-----------------------------
(At the camp,)

RYU-OH Damn it! What were those shining butterflies!?
KARURA-OH I heard from Yasha-Oh once... that in the Far North where
the Yasha clan protected, there was a castle sealed in ice
that not even the spring light could melt.
RYU-OH An ice castle?
KARURA-OH It seems that in the Far North, there's a demon that not
even the very war-adept Yasha clan could successfully
expunge. A demon race that lives within a castle that's
                protected by ice.
ASHURA Yasha was taken by that demon?
KARURA-OH Most of the demons in the northern land had been killed off
by the Yasha clan. A demon that even Yasha-Oh would be
caught off guard could only be this master of the ice
                castle.
RYU-OH But where is this ice castle?!
KUJAKU That way.
RYU-OH What?
ASHURA Kujaku, you know?
KUJAKU Yup.
KARURA-OH Why do you know about the castle? Not even Yasha-Oh
                knew of the exact location.
KUJAKU Ha! It's because my daily deeds are good.
RYU-OH I've been good myself, but I don't know!
KARURA-OH For a while I've been wondering, but who are you? You're
not Taishaku-Ten's man nor are you one of the Six Stars.
KUJAKU I told you! I'm just a wanderer <pursuing entertainment>.
ASHURA Kujaku, you know? Then tell me! I have to help Yasha!
I made a promise, that I'll be with Yasha forever!
That's why I have to go help him!
KUJAKU You're a good kid. (Pinches her cheeks) Hm?
-----------------------------
(Inside the Ice Castle,)

AIZEN Finally within my hands... My light that I've been
searching for so long. The light that will help me out
of here, <the light> that is all mine. I don't want to be
alone. I don't want to be lonely.
YASHA Who are you? [Note: He uses the word "Kisama", a dirtier
                curse-like "you"]
AIZEN I've forgotten <something useless as> my name. I'm all
alone. Since no one calls my name, I've forgotten it.
Long, long time ago, I feel that someone had called me
                Aizen-Myoh-Oh.
-----------------------------
(Ashura's group reach within walking distance of the castle. As Ashura
begins to head for it, Kujaku stops her.)

KUJAKU Wait.
ASHURA <Please> move aside, Kujaku. I have to go help Yasha.
[LT: I have to go help Yasha quickly/soonest/A.S.A.P.]
KUJAKU If you take even one more step, you will be pork meat.
                [ALT: pork chops]
ASHURA What?
KARURA-OH Power barrier?
RYU-OH What the?
(Karura-Oh calls up a pair of energy birds. As the birds head for the
castle, they are shattered by an invisible power barrier)
KARURA-OH There's an invisible power barrier everywhere. If we
tried to force our way through, our bodies will be split
                asunder.
RYU-OH What are we going to do? Isn't there some way in?
                (Suddenly, Sohma appears) Sohma!
SOHMA Please hurry. The Ten-Tei's troops are heading this way.
[ALT: The Imperial troops are heading this way]
KARURA-OH So it was a trap after all.
RYU-OH          Geez!  Yasha-Oh is so lame!!  [ALT: inane; dumb; dim-witted;
clumsy] To be so easily caught in a trap!! (Noticing
                Ashura's piercing stare,) Ahm...
(Ashura tries to head for the power barrier, but Kujaku stops her again)
KUJAKU Don't be hasty, Ashura.
ASHURA If I don't hurry, Yasha <will be>...!
KUJAKU Didn't you see those birds?
ASHURA I don't care what happens to me, but I'm going to help
                Yasha!
KUJAKU Your logic fails, but I understand very well your
"do-or-die" resolve. [LT: but I understand your "ready to
die if necessary" resolve] In deference to that spirit,
I ["onii-san"=young older man; older brother] will show
                you the way.
ASHURA Really?
KUJAKU Yup.
-----------------------------
(Within the Ice Castle,)

AIZEN I was waiting. The light that is stronger than anyone,
<the light> that will help me.
YASHA You're wrong. I'm not the one you were waiting for.
AIZEN For three hundred years, in this lonely castle [LT: in this
castle where there's no one else], I was all alone... As
my father told me <to do>, I had waited here with my
attendants until the end of the war. I had waited a long
time. But no one came. Everyone else died, leaving me all
                alone!
(Aizen extends her hands to hold Yasha, but her hands are not those of
humans (or gods, shall we say))
YASHA You're a survivor of the god race that were annihilated
during the time of the Holy War...?
(Aizen laughs)
-----------------------------
(Nearer to the Ice Castle,)

ASHURA So Yasha is in there, <right>?
(Noticing that the Imperial troops are heading their way,)
KARURA-OH That was an oversight. To think that they would penetrate
                the power barrier...

(A butterfly lets Aizen know of the intruders. The perimeter around the
castle responds to her rage and demons begin their attack)

RYU-OH Well then, let me put in some pep! [ALT: permit me to
                add excitement/seriousness] Haja! Kai-Ryu-Ha!!!
(They counter-attack the demons with their respective attack methods)
SOHMA Soh-Geppa! [LT: Twin Moon Leaves]
KUJAKU Ashura, I'll let you know of a good thing. [ALT: I'll
teach you something good] (Evading an attack,) Shura-toh
and Yama-toh is constantly attracted to each other!
                ["-toh"=sword. E.g., Shura-toh=Shura sword, Sword Shura]
ASHURA What!? [Note: "Eh!?" is used more in expression of
surprise then the literal translation of "what!?". Can be
left out and left as it is in both reading and subtitling]
KUJAKU You should be able to find Yama-toh by relying on
                Shura-toh's resonance <with Yama-toh>. Consequently, the
                owner as well.
ASHURA What!? ["Eh!?"]
KARURA-OH Go, Ashura! You're the only one who can find Yasha-Oh!

(Everyone agrees with the nod of their heads. Ashura heads for the
castle while the others fight the demons)

ASHURA Yasha...!
(From her hands, light appears and with it, the Ashura hereditary sword,
Shura-toh. [ASIDE: Though this is not clear in the anime, the
Shura-sword's scabbard is Ashura's body itself])
V/KUJAKU Shura-toh and Yama-toh is constantly attracted to each
other! You should be able to find Yama-toh by relying on
                Shura-toh's resonance <with Yama-toh>. Consequently, the
                owner as well.
(Ashura opens the door to the castle and enters)
ASHURA Yasha...!

(In the room Yasha is being held,)
YASHA Ashura. Ashura.
AIZEN Why do you call that one's name?! [ALT: Why do you
                call her name?]
YASHA Ashura.
AIZEN Quiet! You mustn't call any other's name but mine!
YASHA Ashura.

(Running through the castle,)
ASHURA Yasha! I'll save you <for sure>!

(In the room,)
AIZEN I won't hand you over to anyone. [ALT: I won't give you to
anyone] You're going to stay with me forever! You're going
to live here! I won't let anyone interfere. Not anyone!
[ALT: I will let no one interfere! No one!]
ASHURA Yasha! Yasha!
AIZEN You...! <It's> because you exist, he won't be mine!
ASHURA Give Yasha back! [ALT: Give him back]
AIZEN I won't! [LT: I won't hand over]
(Aizen attacks with a demon which Ashura counterattacks with her sword.
Surprised by the power of Shura-toh, Aizen is dazed for a moment)
AIZEN No, no <way>! [ALT: No, never] I won't hand him over to
anyone! You... If <only> you didn't exist, he'd be
mine! Yasha! Kill this girl. Kill her!
(Aizen forces her psyche onto Yasha, thus controlling his mind)
ASHURA Yasha. Yasha! (Yasha attacks) Yasha, what's the matter?
Yasha, <please> quit it. Yasha! Yasha!!!
(Defenseless against Yasha, Ashura awaits the fall of Yasha's sword that
would surely kill her. Yasha's sword plunges down, but...)
ASHURA Yasha... (As Yasha removes the blade from his leg,)
                Yasha! Yasha, blood...
YASHA It's okay. [ALT: I'm all right] I caused you fright
                <, didn't I>. [LT: I made you feel scared, <didn't I>]
AIZEN NOOOOOOO!!!!! Mine... Mine! You're mine!!
YASHA The one you wait for will not come.
AIZEN You lie!
YASHA In the Holy War 300 years ago, all who opposed the traitor
Taishaku-Ten were massacred. Your blood relatives, too,
                were probably...
AIZEN Lie... That's a lie!
YASHA From loneliness, did you merge with a demon race? [ALT:
demons] Aizen-Myoh-Oh!! Ashura, use the Shura-toh.
ASHURA What!?
YASHA Shura-toh can send this poor princess to the Underworld.
[ALT: can send this poor princess to her death]
ASHURA But...!
YASHA She's already dead.
ASHURA What!?
YASHA She had to keep on waiting even though she was lonely, very
lonely. To live through the long time, she became
a demon herself. The Shura-toh, the sword that is passed
down only to the Ashura Kings who were the Protectors of
the Heavenly Kingdom... with that sword you can send her
to nirvana. [ALT: can send her to peaceful death]
                Ashura!!

(Aizen attacks and Ashura counterattacks with the thrust of her sword. The
thrust hits true, and Aizen screams. From the wound, along with blood,
fire bursts out and envelopes her, the result of the Shura-toh.)

AIZEN I was lonely... because there was no one <here>... no one
for a long time. You and him... I was envious of the
strong light. I was envious. You have someone who will be
by your side <forever>, someone to protect you. I was
                truly envious...
ASHURA I'm sorry...
AIZEN Thank you...!
(Her head-piece cracks and she is burned away)
YASHA Ashura...
ASHURA She came out in my dream. That she was lonely. If I
didn't have you, I probably would've been like her.
-----------------------------
(The castle collapses. Outside, they are reunited with the others)

ASHURA It's Taishaku-Ten's fault that she became that way... If
there was no war, then the people around her wouldn't have
                died.
YASHA Yes...
ASHURA I'll become much stronger! So I can defeat Taishaku-Ten
even one day earlier, so everyone can be happy!!
YASHA Yes. [LT: That is so; I suppose so]
KUJAKU I guess you owe me again. Yasha-Oh, you can pay for it
with three dinners! [ALT: I'll accept three dinners as
                <the payment of> your thanks]
RYU-OH Hey! I'm the one who's always making dinner!!
KUJAKU That's so, isn't it? Well, then, another form of thanks
                from Yasha-Oh.
KARURA-OH What kind of thanks?
KUJAKU Let me see, <how about> having Yasha-Oh dance or sing in
                the streets.
KARURA-OH Oh-ho! I would love to be called for that <to be there>. I
haven't yet seen Yasha-Oh indulging in singing or dancing!
[ALT: I have yet to see Yasha-Oh indulging himself in
                singing or dancing]
RYU-OH Call me too!
SOHMA Ahm... If you don't leave here soon, the pursuing Imperial
                troops will again be...
(As Yasha ignores their demands and walks away with Ashura,)
RYU-OH H-Hey!!! Wait a second, Yasha-Oh!!!
KUJAKU It's not fair to flee [ALT: run away]! Dutifully sing one
                song!
KARURA-OH I want to see the dancing as well!
SOHMA Ahm... The Imperial troops...

(In the Imperial palace,)

TAISHAKU-TEN How long will they keep me amused?

MESSAGE:

Translating takes lots of time and money. If you find this script useful,
monetary contribution of any amount is greatly appreciated.

Also, Griffin is constantly looking for good animes to translate. If there

SUBTITLING
============================================================================
In the event this script is used for a subtitling effort, it is greatly
appreciated if the subtitler follow these guidelines:

1. All names listed in the script heading be given their appropriate
    credits. (Specifically, translator and editor(s))
2. The dialogues may be shortened to fit the screen as the subtitler deems,
provided that the nuances and meanings are not changed drastically. (It
is even more appreciated if the subtitler could send the altered
dialogues to the translator for approval beforehand. It would help
prevent the translator from biting her nails to pieces later.)
3. If there are more than one script for the same movie title, avoid
mixing the scripts (i.e., interchanging dialogues from different
scripts). Different translators have different assumptions, and will
cause disharmony when scripts are mixed. If there is a clear need,
    please contact this translator.
4. The existence of the tape be made known to the translator. (Preferably,
contacted before the project is begun.)

An inappropriate subtitling using any of the Griffin scripts may result in
either a less wide distribution of the script or a termination of any future
script translating effort. Thanks! --- Griff
